Frog Pond on Cat Ba National park

is located on the National Park tourist route (Center Garden - Viet Hai - Lan Ha Bay route), 6km from the center of the Garden, 4km from Viet Hai village. After experiencing, discovering, enjoying the natural beauty and biodiversity of many primeval forest areas, passing many valleys and hills with ancient forests. Suddenly appearing in front of visitors a flooded forest on limestone mountains that the locals named Frog Pond.
It is a type of forest that is regularly flooded at the foot of the mountain, with an area of about 3 hectares. The water level in Frog Pond is usually at an average height of 50cm muddy. There is only one species of tree that grows in that swamp, and that is Salix terasperma (Salix terasperma) of the willow family. The tree is about 8 to 15m tall, 15-20cm in diameter. To adapt to the constantly flooded environment, each tree has a unique breathing root system, silviculturalists call it a monophyletic forest, because only one species of tree is concentrated in the whole Forest.
The forest landscape here is unique and can only be compared with a type of freshwater forest in which the dominant tree species is the Dai Phong sycamore tree of the South Cat Tien National Park (Dong Nai) and it partially recalls the forests. U Minh Melaleuca forest of the Southwest region, which is also a unique type of forest that nowhere else in the North of Vietnam has.
"Frog Pond" is the only water source to provide drinking water for birds and animals in the area in the dry seasons. The name Frog Pond is given to this place by the locals because there is a species of Green Frog with a very strange color and croaking. Some local guides are gifted and skilled when bringing visitors here, often imitating the sound of this frog and within a few minutes there are many Frogs squeaking in response with extremely loud, fun and interesting sounds.
