The stone marking the place where Uncle Ho set foot on Cat Ba island

The monolithic stone work marks the place where beloved Chairman Ho Chi Minh set foot on Cat Ba Island on March 31, 1959, the stone slab serves as a historical proof for present-day islanders and tourists about this historic event. During the trip to inspect the northeastern island waters of the country, from the north in Quang Ninh province, the ship took Chairman Ho Chi Minh to two island districts, Cat Ba and Cat Hai.
The ship docked at Pho Han (the wharf area of Cat Ba town today - that day in Cat Ba district), on the shelf of an ice machine, Chairman Ho Chi Minh encouraged people to increase production... so that people's lives become more and more prosperous and happy... at the same time, he also admonished "Our gold forest and silver sea, owned by our people".

Continuing the journey, the ship brought Chairman Ho Chi Minh to Got Wharf, in Cao Minh commune (formerly a commune in Cat Hai district, in mid-1978 Cao Minh commune moved the whole commune to Cat Ba), because the ship did not next to Got Wharf, Uncle used a small boat to transport it to shore.
Uncle visited and met some fishermen's families, talked with some officials, soldiers and people of Cat Hai district that day in the collective house of Quang Phu fishing group. Then the ship brought Uncle Ho back to the mainland in Hai Phong city on the same day.

In March 2009, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Uncle Ho's visit to Cat Ba Fish Village, the traditional day of Vietnam's fisheries industry and the opening of Cat Ba tourism 2009, after a period of careful selection, with participation of leading experts in the field of history and culture of Vietnam, the natural stone block is hundreds of millions of years old in the heroic Ha Sen hometown (present-day Tran Chau commune, the section between Tung Gom and Ben village) was brought to the square of Cat Ba tourist center, right where Uncle Uncle set foot on the island in the past.
Natural stone block weighs 86 tons (high-width-thickness part: 3.5m-5m-2m), on both sides there is a copper stele station, on the northwest side it is written: “Here, on March 31, 1959 Chairman Ho Chi Minh visited Cat Ba Fishing Village”; On the Southeast face is written his advice: "My golden forest and silver sea are owned by our people ".
The event of Uncle Ho's visit to Cat Ba district in the past was chosen as the district's traditional day, March 31 every year is the festival to celebrate Uncle Ho's visit to Cat Ba fishing village, the traditional day of Vietnam fisheries industry and the opening of Cat Ba tourism. Uncle Ho's place to visit Cat Ba island was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national historical and cultural relic in 2009.
