Quan Y grotto (or Hospital cave)
Location here

Quan Y grotto is located along the trans-island road and it is around 9 km from Cat Ba town, in Hai Son hamlet, Tran Chau commune. The special structure of stalactites and seaside limestone mountain system formed by sediment make Quan Y grotto an ideal tourist spot to explore.

What makes the cave even more valuable and a must see place is it historical past. It was used to serve the military hospital during the USA army bombarded Northern Vietnam with warships and air-plane from 1963 to 1965. During that time, the grotto was built leaning on natural limestone mountain for services to injured and sick soldier and also as a place for the local people who evacuate from Bach Long Vi island to hide from bombs.

Quan Y grotto was constructed as a self contained one with concrete, connected between 2 caves of 200m length; it has a front gate adjoining the west and a back gate adjoining the East. The grotto-middle zone contains 3 seperated floors with 17 rooms, cinema tent and functional rooms.

The first floor is the main zone with 14 functional rooms. The second floor is cinema zone and substance checking zone. The third floor is the welcome hall, guard room and staff and officers room. Quan Y grotto reflects a wartime constructive scale of a well-equipped minitary hospital which is large enough to serve hundreds of patients.

Today, the entire interior structure of Quan Y grotto still remains undamaged while the exterior scenery is still in harmonized with lanscape of Cat Ba national park. This is an attractive and alluring spot for both international and domestic in their itinerary to visit Cat Ba island.
