Tran Chau commune is located on Cat Ba island in Cat Hai district, a land with a long history of struggle for survival and development, and also the cradle of the resistance base against the French colonialists. It borders Cat Ba National Park to the North, Xuan Dam Commune and the Gulf of Tonkin to the South, Xuan Dam and Hien Hao Communes to the West. Area 44 km2, population 1,765 (as of April 2015). The commune consists of 6 villages: Lien Minh, Lien Hoa, Minh Chau, Ben, Phu Cuong and Hai Son.

Tran Chau (old books called Chan Chau) has the short name Lang Nang, before 1813 belonged to Ha Sen canton, Hoa Phong district (later changed to Nghiem Phong, Cat Ba), Yen Quang town, then Quang Yen province. In the years 1945-1947, the name was Thai Hoa and from 1948 it changed to Viet Thang and back in 1954 it was called Tran Chau again.

Tran Chau is an ancient cultural area, thousands of years ago, the cultural sediments of the ancient Vietnamese people remained in many caves such as Ong Chung cave, Ba Dom cave, Hospital cave, Vang cave. It is also home to a long revolutionary tradition. This rugged mountain place was once a revolutionary base during the resistance wars against the invaders. In 1893, when the French army landed on Cat Ba Island, the fishermen on the island fought fiercely to fight back.

The beginning of the uprising was the insurgent Hoang Thong Te and his sister, Hoang Lan Vu - a native of Tran Chau village, who stood up to raise the uprising flag. During the two resistance wars against the French and the Americans, the officers and people of Tran Chau commune contributed a lot of human and material strength to the resistance war. The places of Da Pheng, Ang Nha and Khoan Da have been associated with the glorious feats of Ha Sen guerrillas, creating the tradition of "the heroic Ha Sen".

From the center of Cat Ba town, running along the coast about 5km, visitors come to Tran Chau commune - a land with many interesting things to explore.

The first point to visit Tran Chau, invites visitors to visit Thuong Luong stream - a stream from a mountain cave that flows around the clock and is the main source of fresh water for the people of Tran Chau commune and a part of the residents of Cat ba town. Thuong Luong Stream associated with many humorous stories of the people of Tran Chau will surely captivate visitors when coming to this land.

From Thuong Luong, we invite you to visit Minh Chau cave. This is the result of millions of years of limestone formation that formed the cave and was named Minh Chau by the people here. The cave is located at an altitude of about 5 to 10m above sea level, has 2 gates connecting through the mountain with a length of nearly 100m, the widest place is 5m. Above the cave, there are many stalactites with shapes like wonderful sculptures of nature.

Tran Chau is an island commune with many orchards of fruit trees such as: Orange, Grapefruit, Persimmon, Lychee, Longan, custard apple to specialties such as Wild Honey, Lien Minh Chicken. Chickens are raised naturally, sleeping on trees in the garden at night. In addition to the food that is provided by humans every day such as corn, potatoes, cassava..., Lien Minh chickens find their own food in the wild such as worms, crickets... and with the steep hilly terrain, the chickens have toned meat. sweet and has a distinct aroma, weighing 2-4 kg more. The processing is also very simple like boiling or baking but still ensures the delicious taste.

The chicken is grilled with charcoal and when the chicken is almost cooked, it is covered with a layer of Cat Ba forest honey… creating a characteristic seductive aroma. Under the summer longan garden, with just a mat, a ember fire and a chicken Alliance, you and your family had a wild meal of nature.

With diverse and rugged karst terrain, the eco-tourism site in Tran Chau commune is suitable for visitors to experience the thrills from the type of adventure tourism (climbing) in the butterfly valley.
