Long Chau island

Long Chau Islands
Location here

Long Chau archipelago includes more than 30 small islands and reefs, in the south-southwest of Cat Ba archipelago, distributed over an area of about 22 km2; 15 km from Cat Ba town along the sea route. Long Chau Island is the largest island in this archipelago with an area including the water surface of about 4 square kilometers. From Cai Beo wharf, it takes about 1 hour by boat to Long Chau island, however, the way to Long Chau depends on weather conditions due to frequent waves and strong winds on the sea route, not in the inland waterways reserved for other transport ships to travel.

Long Chau Lighthouse is located on the large island of Long Chau, built in 1894, with the task of sending signals to guide ships when passing through the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin for safe circulation. Long Chau Lighthouse along with Hon Dau lighthouse and Ke Ga lighthouse are the three oldest lighthouses in Vietnam, all over 110 years old.

Currently, on Long Chau island, there is a Border Guard station belonging to Cat Ba Border Post, Long Chau Lighthouse Group. Because it is far from Cat Ba island, the life of border guards and lighthouse staff here still faces many difficulties.

But the Long Chau Lighthouse is still bright at night in the middle of the sea, leading the ships to go back and forth, for the peace of the country and the happiness of the people.
