The area of Dark Cave - Bright Cave is about 1.1 km2 wide, in the northeast of Lan Ha Bay in Cat Ba archipelago. This is one of the typical Karst caves formed about 10 thousand years ago during the process of sea water intrusion and erosion of limestone mountains.
Dark Cave - Bright Cave (locally known as Ca Cave) is an indispensable destination in journeys to visit Lan Ha Bay. From Cai Beo Tourist Wharf in the south of Lan Ha Bay, you take a cruise ship with an average speed of about 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive here, you can see the whole Lan Ha Bay, pass But Day cape, enter Cua Van, see the area of Ba Trai Dao beach, Hon But,..... In case you come from the North, depart from Ben Got port (Cat Hai island) or depart From Tuan Chau wharf (in Ha Long city) after about 2 hours, you will arrive at Dark Cave - Bright Cave.
Dark Cave - Bright Cave is known as a beautiful kayaking area, the only place in Lan Ha Bay where visitors can visit 04 tunnels in the same area, including: Dark cave, Bright cave, Bat cave (also called Ca Cave), Jellyfish Cave.

In which, Dark cave is the longest cave over 200m, but it is quite narrow in order to visit this cave, you need a flashlight and depend on tidal conditions. Bright Cave, Bat Cave (over 100m long), Jellyfish Cave are arch caves with quite high ceilings, you can use small boats or kayaks to go through.
Kayaking path to visit all 4 caves is about 5.3km, journey is about 1 hour 30 minutes. If the tide conditions or the management unit does not allow to enter the Dark Cave, you can row a boat to visit 3 caves: Bright Cave, Bat Cave, Jellyfish Cave about 4.1 km with a journey of about 45 minutes.
In the closed area of Dark Cave - Bright Cave. This place is a safe place for kayaking because of its isolation, not on the creek of ships or boats. On the other hand, Dark and Bright Cave is surrounded by high mountains, so the waves are completely calm, the ocean currents are just right up, perfectly suitable for kayaking activities;
Bright cave
You can admire the beautiful stalactites falling from the dome of the cave, the sound of water dripping from the stalactites and the wingspan of bats living at the cave arch. In the tourist season, the most crowded time of tourists canoeing here is from: 10 am - 12 pm, afternoon from 14 pm to 16 pm.
The Dark and Bright Cave area belongs to the core zone of the Cat Ba Archipelago World Biosphere Reserve, which has exceptionally high biodiversity both in the sea and in the forest.
