Temple of Vua Ba Lang Ha, Lan Ha Bay

Temple of "Vua Ba Lang Ha", at Cai Lang Ha, Lan Ha Bay

Derived from a folk tale, at the end of the 19th century, on a beautiful day, there was a dragon boat carrying 9 sisters to visit the Northeastern sea and island area. Unfortunately, there was a big storm on the sea, and the dragon boat gradually sank. The bodies of 9 sisters drifted to different locations, the older sister drifted to the sand in the Dau Be archipelago (the fishermen built the Ba Men temple). The second oldest sister's body drifted to Cai Lang Ha (Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba archipelago). The body of the third sister drifted to the mouth of Gia Luan commune today, while other sisters appeared in some coastal areas of the Gulf of Tonkin.

Fishermen of Cai Lang Ha and Co Do in Lan Ha Bay established a temple and named it "King Ba Lang Ha". At the beginning of the 20th century, the French opened a raid on Cai Lang Ha and Co Do village in Lan Ha Bay to search for resistance bases, the French removed the temple "King Ba Lang Ha".

Around the years 1981-1984, fishermen rebuilt the temple of King Ba Lang Ha. Using dunes to form the ground, the main building material for the temple's reconstruction is bamboo. Seafaring fishermen often come to pray and offer Mass before each sea trip; In 2004, Mr. Tran Van Vinh, born in 1959, residing in the 11th residential group, Cat Ba town today, is a fisherman in the Cat Ba archipelago who came to worship and asked King Ba Lang Ha to bless his trip to the sea. That trip, King Ba allowed him to catch nearly 2 tons of Stilts. The amount of money given by King Ba was given to Vinh, who rebuilt the temple.

In the following years, with the contribution of fishermen inside and outside the area, the temple of King Ba Lang Ha was more decorated, becoming the spiritual point of fishermen every day on the first lunar day of every month or every trip to the sea. The 20th March lunar every year is the main holiday of King Ba Temple.
